Marjorie Post’s Winter White House

Talk about history repeating. Turns out Mar-a-Lago is a weird beyond-the-grave second act by Marjorie Merriwether Post, whose house it was initially. When she died in 1973, she donated it to the federal government to be a presidential retreat. The words “winter white house” were used.

However, the upkeep and tax penalties cost millions of dollars a year, and security for diplomats was a total nightmare. So in 1981, the U.S. government made the Post family take it back. Trump bought it off them in 1987.

I wonder whether there’s a secret conspiracy to Make America Grape Nuts Again.
